restaurant review #283 – Wiphada is a Thai restaurant in Bruges. We were here a couple of weeks ago for lunch. This was before the new lockdown went into place due to the COVID pandemic, and all restaurants had to close again.
Wiphada is a small restaurant in the Langestraat, on the east side of Bruges.
Vegan options are clearly labeled on the menu: there is one vegan appetizer (vegetable soup with coconut milk) and a handful of vegan main dishes.
We had the vegetables soup with coconut milk (7,50€). Pumpkin and tofu in red curry with coconut milk (10,50€) and thai style fried noodles with tofu, vegetables and peanuts (9€). Did not see any vegan desserts on menu.
The food was really lovely. Huge portions! We could not finish the main dishes and asked for the leftovers to take with us (no problem, although you do pay 0.20 and 0.40 for the boxes, which is fair!).
Our soups didn’t take long to be served, but then it took quite a while for the main dishes to be served. We could see that meanwhile a takeaway order was being prepared (as the kitchen is behind the counter in the restaurant room) and the dishes for another table.
We had lunch at the restaurant, but they also offer take away. The restaurant setting itself is not so cosy (loud hitparade music, small tables, …). This is not for a relaxed dining out experience (and it did make the wait not so enjoyable). I would love to eat Wiphada’s food again, but would opt for take-away next time.
Toilet at the back. Clean and tidy. Did not see an accessible toilet. The restaurant room is on ground floor, with a step to get in.
All in all: Very good value for money (cheap, considering prices in Bruges). Loved the food. Not so cosy setting.
